We recognize that all agencies are experiencing significant challenges to address budgetary limitations. You may have questions regarding options and strategies that may be available to you related to personnel matters. We have attached a list of questions and answers to assist you.

On February 21, 2008, Governor Janet Napolitano announced that in order to help reduce the current budget shortfall, she was introducing a hiring freeze across executive agencies in state government. The freeze applies to all positions except those vital to providing for the health and safety of the public or the collection or investment of state revenues. The Director of the Department of Administration will make the determination as to what positions are mission critical and exempt from the hiring freeze.
